Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana’s Political Science Department, Prof. Alidu Seidu, has expressed strong confidence in his chances of winning the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries for the Tamale Central constituency.
Speaking to the media after his vetting earlier today, Prof. Seidu described the process as “free, fair and transparent,” noting that all aspirants were given a fair opportunity to present themselves.
“The vetting process went very well. They asked me a lot of questions and I did my best to answer them. I believe and trust in the process the party has put in place, and I am confident that if this continues everywhere, the NDC will remain a strong party,” he said.
Prof. Seidu also appealed to aspirants and supporters to conduct their campaigns peacefully and respectfully, stressing the importance of unity in light of the tragic circumstances that led to the by-election. The sitting MP, Hon. Mohammed Ibrahim Murtala, together with seven others, lost their lives in a recent tragic incident that has left the nation in mourning.
“Our most respected MP, the late Hon. Murtala, died in a tragedy that is still affecting the whole country. The best way we can honour his memory is to be peaceful, decorous, and to campaign in a manner befitting his legacy,” Prof. Seidu noted.
He further stated that he had already presented his vision and message to delegates and was confident they would “buy into it.”
“I’m very confident. I’m going to win the primaries and also secure the Tamale Central seat for the NDC,” he declared.
The NDC is expected to hold its primaries in the coming days to elect a new candidate to represent the party in the upcoming by-election.
