The First Deputy Whip of Parliament, Honourable Alhaji Habib Iddrisu has once again taken on the Majority side of the law-making house for not showing seriousness to the business of the house.
Hon. Alhaji Habib Iddrisu earlier this week took the majority to the cleaners for not showing urgency to Parliamentary business. According to him, the NDC side of the house often absenting themselves from the house anytime there is an important matter to be considered.
Picking up the issue again after Majority MPs failed to show up for the consideration of the business statement for next week, Alhaji Iddrisu said, “Mr. Speaker I just want to draw your attention that, our attitude towards the attendance of the house is very bad. Mr. Sperker, we are going adopt the business statement, that is programing for what will happen to Parliament. We are a chamber of 276. We have a majority of 189; the majority are only 15 in the chamber. This attitude is not helping us at all”.
He opined that, a majority that does not attend parliament does not take the country serious. “We are not taking Ghanaians seriously and we are not taking our constituents seriously. When you have a majority of 189 and yet you cannot have 20 members in the chamber to adopt a business for the ensuing week, then members will come and complain that they were not here and that did not happen is not helping us at all’, he stressed.
The failure of members of the Majority to show in the chamber has become a matter of concern to watchers of Parliamentary proceedings who are questioning the essence of having huge numbers without the necessary input in the law-making process of the house.
