Former mayor of Tamale, Mr Musah Superior, is calling for the immediate resignation of the party’s national executives.
In a statement titled “A Call for Accountability: National Executives Must Resign Now”, Mr. Superior said the NPP has been left “leaderless and directionless” since its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
He blamed the current leadership for the party’s losses in the Ablekuma North re-run and the Akwatia by-election, describing them as a result of poor planning and inefficiency at the party’s headquarters.
Mr. Superior also referenced a leaked audio attributed to the NPP’s 3rd National Vice Chairman, Alhaji Masawudu Osman, suggesting a lack of funds for the Akwatia by-election. He argued that the claim raises serious concerns, especially as several party members and former appointees had contributed financially to support the campaign.
According to him, the revelations highlight deeper problems within the leadership that must be investigated.
He further warned that if the current executives remain in office, the party risks another major defeat in the 2028 elections, regardless of its presidential candidate. He called for urgent reforms, restructuring, and rebranding to restore confidence among the grassroots and improve the party’s public image.
“The party is weak, disunited, and distracted by internal contestations,” he said, warning that the NPP could face the same fate as the defunct Convention People’s Party if decisive action is not taken.
Mr. Superior concluded by insisting that, for the survival and future of the party, the entire national leadership must resign.
