The Office of the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has issued a clarification following concerns raised by the Leader of the Ambariya Islamic Community, Sheikh Saeed Zakaria, over the omission of certain individuals from appointment letters issued for the newly established Ambariya Islamic Education Unit.
In a statement signed by the Minister’s Press Secretary, Hashmin Mohammed, the Ministry explained that the process leading to the operationalization of the Unit was carried out through extensive consultations between the Ghana Education Service (GES) and representatives of the Ambariya Islamic Community.
According to the statement, the Ambariya Community was represented throughout the engagement process by Professor Abdulai Salifu Asuro, who acted on behalf of the community.
As part of the agreed arrangements, the Director-General of GES requested the submission of names and curriculum vitae of persons to be considered for appointment to the Unit.
The Ministry noted that Professor Asuro subsequently submitted a list of nominees that had been approved by the community’s representatives for consideration. Based on this submission, GES proceeded to make appointments strictly from the names provided.
The statement emphasized that neither the Minister for Education nor the Ghana Education Service played any role in selecting or determining the individuals nominated for the positions.
It therefore described as inaccurate attempts to blame the Minister or GES for any omissions, exclusions, or additions in the final appointment list.
The Ministry advised that any concerns regarding the composition of the appointments should be directed to the representatives of the Ambariya Islamic Community who submitted the nominations to GES.
Reaffirming its commitment to a cordial relationship with the Ambariya Islamic Community and other stakeholders, the Ministry expressed confidence that any misunderstandings surrounding the issue could be resolved through dialogue, mutual respect, and adherence to the facts.
The clarification comes amid growing public discussion over the staffing of the newly operationalized Ambariya Islamic Education Unit, with the Ministry seeking to set the record straight on the process that informed the appointments.
