Over 30 million tree seedlings have so far been planted under the government’s Tree for Life Program which is aimed at reforesting degraded land in the country.
The program which was launched in 2025 has seen the Lands and Environment Ministry through the Forestry Commission pursue an aggressive tree planting campaign across the country as part of its broad effort of dealing with the destruction caused by illegal mining and logging.
This was disclosed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission, Dr. Hugh C.A Brown at the 2026 edition of the World Environment Day commemoration in Accra on Friday, 5th June 2026.
According to him, the commission with the support of stakeholders is working hard to deal with the devastation caused by environmental degradation across the country. He called on Ghanaians to support the initiative to support the Tree for Life program to help save the environment.
This year’s World Environment Day event is being celebrated under the theme; “Forests and Economies Inspired by Nature. For Climate, for our future” has attracted participants from various ministries, environmental protection groups as well as a delegation from Eswatini.
Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah will be delivering the keynote address.
