The Minority Caucus in Ghana’s Parliament has expressed its position on the High Court’s decision to nullify the results of the Kpandai constituency parliamentary election. In a statement dated November 24, 2025, signed by Minority Leader Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the caucus said the election was conducted transparently and reflected the will of the voters.
The court had ordered a rerun of the election due to issues raised by the NDC candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal, who challenged the results citing his absence during collation in Tamale and alleged clerical errors in 41 out of 152 polling stations. Despite this, the Minority Caucus noted that even if all contested votes were awarded to the NDC candidate, Hon. Matthew Nyindam (NPP) would still have won by over 3,000 votes.
The High Court ruled for a rerun of the Kpandai parliamentary election.
Hon. Matthew Nyindam (NPP) won the original count with 27,947 votes to Hon. Wakpal’s 24,213 votes.
The Minority Caucus remains committed to the rule of law and hopes the appellate process restores confidence in the democratic outcome.
An appeal and stay of execution have been filed against the court’s decision.
The outcome of the appeal could determine whether a rerun of the election will proceed as ordered by the High Court.
