President John Dramani Mahama has directed immediate steps to address tensions in the Sawla-Bole area of the Savannah Region.

The President made the decision after a security briefing on his return from a state visit to Singapore.

In a statement released, the President was said to have spoken by telephone with the Yagbonwura, Jira Bikunuto Jewu Soale I, to discuss ways of restoring calm between the Gonja and Brifor communities.

A government delegation led by the Minister for the Interior, Hon Alhaji Muntaka Mohamed-Mubarak, has been dispatched to the area. The team will meet the Yagbonwura and other traditional leaders to support mediation and reconciliation efforts.

Security has also been reinforced, with more police and military personnel deployed to safeguard lives and property.

President Mahama has appealed to all sides to cooperate with the peace process and to use ng disputes.
