In a significant move to bolster the creative arts industry in the North East Region, the Member of Parliament for Walewale, Dr Tia Abdul-Kabiru Mahama, has launched a new initiative aimed at nurturing young talent and promoting sustainable development within the creative industry in the region.

The announcement was made during the 6th edition of the North East Music Awards (NEMA), where Dr. Mahama served as the guest of honour. The initiative dubbed the “Dr KB Creative Sector Support Initiative,” seeks to provide both infrastructural and institutional support to emerging creatives across the region.

A key component of the initiative is the establishment of a modern recording studio in Walewale. According to Dr. Mahama, the studio’s equipment has already been procured and will be installed in the coming weeks.

“This initiative is about more than entertainment,” Dr. Mahama stated. “It is about empowering our youth, providing them with opportunities, and using the arts as a tool for social transformation. We believe the creative sector holds immense potential to combat social vices, promote cultural identity, and foster economic growth.”

Dr. Kabiru also encouraged organizers of the NEMA Awards to consider expanding the scope of the event to include other creative disciplines such as film, theatre, and the preservation of indigenous cultural practices.

The NEMA Awards ceremony was marked by several notable highlights, including the recognition of CK Omario, who emerged as the overall Best Artist. The young vibrant rapper also secured awards for Most Popular Song of the Year and Best Collaboration of the Year — accolades that underline his growing influence in the regional music scene.

The launch of the Creative Sector Support Initiative was warmly received by stakeholders in the industry, who commended Dr Mahama for his commitment to youth development and cultural advancement.

Organizers of the awards expressed their appreciation for Dr. Mahama’s support, noting that while the gesture represents a positive step forward, continued investment and collaboration will be essential to fully realize the region’s creative potential.
