The Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Salisu Be-Awuribe, has called on the youth of the region to take education and technical training seriously, emphasizing that perseverance and hard work are key to success.
Speaking at the Independence Day celebration in Damongo, the regional capital, Hon. Be-Awuribe encouraged young people to remain dedicated to their aspirations, stating that no obstacle is insurmountable for those who are determined.
“His Excellency, President Mahama, was born here in Damongo, yet he rose to become the president of Ghana. We also grew up in Damongo and now serve in different capacities. The same opportunities exist for you. If you aspire, you too can become great men and women in the future,” he remarked.
The Minister also urged the youth to respect and uphold their cultural values alongside their educational pursuits. He expressed concern over the decline in traditional practices, cautioning against the abandonment of cultural heritage in favor of modern influences.
“In our quest for educational success, we must not abandon our culture and traditions. Many of us are guilty of neglecting our customs and the wisdom passed down by our parents, often due to religious influences. We must find a balance between education and our cultural identity,” he noted.
Hon. Be-Awuribe reaffirmed President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to addressing the long-standing water crisis in Damongo, describing it as a top priority for the administration.
“His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama, is determined to resolve the water crisis that has plagued Damongo for years. By the grace of the Almighty Allah, this administration will work tirelessly to bring a lasting solution,” he assured.
The Minister concluded by urging Ghanaians, particularly the people of the Savannah Region, to adopt a renewed mindset towards development. He emphasized that this transformation should not be a short-term effort but a continuous process of growth and progress.
“The agenda of resetting our mindset should not end today or tomorrow. It should be a lifelong commitment to change and improvement,” he stated.
The Independence Day event brought together dignitaries, traditional leaders, and residents, who welcomed the Minister’s call for education, cultural preservation, and sustainable development in the region.
