The Minority in Parliament has issued a warning to withdraw its cooperation if President John Dramani Mahama does not act to rein in what it describes as lawless activities by individuals allegedly linked to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The Minority claims these incidents, including violence and the destruction of state property, occurred after the 2024 elections, which included preventing the Electoral Commission (EC) from declaring the Ablekuma North parliamentary results favourer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking to journalists, Second Deputy Minority Whip Jerry Ahmed Shaib urged the President and the Election Security Taskforce to take decisive action to restore law and order.

“To President Mahama, we call on you to take immediate steps to call your party thugs to order. You cannot pretend to be unaware of all the lawlessness and violence in this country. We also call on the Ghana Police Service. IGP Dampare, we call on you and the Election Security Taskforce to rise to the occasion and enforce law and order without hesitation.

“The EC officials and all the stakeholders in this electoral process must be protected. They are Ghanaians just like us. We hereby serve notice that should the president, who is the Commander-In-Chief, fail to take steps to protect the ordinary citizens, we, the minority caucus, shall protest through lawful means and withdraw cooperation in parliament,” he stated.

This follows after the re-collection exercise was halted after a group of individuals attacked the collations centre on Friday 17th January 2025.
