In a bold move to promote reconciliation within its ranks, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has granted a general amnesty to all suspended members and those facing disciplinary actions. The decision, taken during an emergency National Council meeting on July 25, 2025, aims to strengthen internal cohesion ahead of future political challenges. The Acting National Chairman, Mr. Danquah Smith Buttey, emphasized that the amnesty lifts all suspensions and halts pending disciplinary cases, though reinstated members must wait two years before contesting internal elections.
The directive also warns regional and constituency executives against arbitrary suspensions, insisting that all disciplinary matters follow due process as outlined in the party’s constitution. This move has been welcomed by many as a step toward unity, though some critics question whether it undermines party discipline. With the NPP gearing up for future elections, the leadership hopes this gesture will rally members behind a common goal, reinforcing the party’s motto: *”Development in Freedom.”*
