Seven people are feared dead and several others injured after an Accra-bound VVIP bus collided with a Toyota Sienna at Saka, a suburb of Zebilla in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region.

The accident occurred at dawn on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at about 5:30 a.m.

According to eyewitnesses, the collision happened when the two vehicles met head-on along the Bolgatanga-Bawku highway. The impact was severe, leaving both vehicles mangled.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and residents rushed to the scene to rescue victims trapped in the wreckage.

The injured have since been conveyed to the Zebilla Government Hospital for treatment. Medical officers at the facility are yet to give details on the condition of the victims.

Police from the Bawku West District Command have cordoned off the area and begun investigations to determine the cause of the accident. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

The Bolgatanga-Bawku highway has recorded several fatal accidents in recent months, raising concerns about road safety and driver conduct in the area.

Authorities are yet to release the identities of the victims.
