The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has given the government a deadline of October 31, 2025, to implement the National Labour Commission’s (NLC) arbitral award and settle outstanding Book and Research Allowance arrears. If the government fails to comply, CETAG will begin a nationwide strike on November 7, 2025, affecting all 46 Colleges of Education.

CETAG’s Key Demands

– Payment of Outstanding Allowances: CETAG is demanding payment of 2023/2024 Book and Research Allowance arrears, which were supposed to be paid alongside the 2024/2025 allowance.
– Implementation of NLC Arbitral Award: The association wants the government to fully implement the May 2023 ruling, addressing long-standing compensation issues for tutors.
-“Compensation for Additional Duties”. CETAG seeks compensation for all-year-round work performed by staff of 39 Colleges of Education in 2022.
“Reversal of Downgrading”. The association demands the reversal of the downgrading of experienced staff, which it says undermines professionalism and morale.
“Payment of 2022/2023 Book and Research Allowance Arrears”. CETAG wants the government to pay outstanding arrears linked to their migration onto the university salary structure .

Consequences of Strike Action

If the strike goes ahead, it could disrupt the 2025/2026 academic year and destabilize teaching and learning at the nation’s Colleges of Education. CETAG has urged the government to act swiftly to prevent disruptions and prioritize the welfare of teacher educators.
