“Stephen Amoah Is a Tribal Bigot” — Gideon Boako Fires Back Over Finance Minister Claims

Story by: Abdul Shakur Omae

Dr. Gideon Boako has launched a scathing attack on the Member of Parliament for the Nsiayesu Constituency, Hon. Stephen Amoah, accusing him of engaging in tribal politics and describing him as a “tribal bigot.”

Speaking on GHOne TV’s Hard Talk, Dr. Boako alleged that Hon. Amoah has a long-standing record of promoting tribal sentiments for political gain. He claimed that the Nsiayesu MP previously deployed similar tactics against him during his bid for the Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Dr. Boako, Hon. Amoah recently made comments in the Ashanti Region intended to influence voters against former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia by appealing to tribal sentiments. He said the remarks were calculated to shape public perception in the region ahead of the elections.

Dr. Boako’s comments come in response to claims by Hon. Stephen Amoah that former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had planned to appoint him as Finance Minister to replace Ken Ofori-Atta, but that Dr. Bawumia allegedly blocked the move in favor of Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam.

Describing the assertion as “unfortunate and tribalistic,” Dr. Boako dismissed the claim and clarified that Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam was never appointed to replace Ken Ofori-Atta. He explained that Dr. Amin Adam was appointed as Minister of State at the Finance Ministry to replace Charles Adu Boahen.

Dr. Boako further noted that, given the reality of a hung Parliament at the time, it was more practical for government to elevate Dr. Amin Adam to oversee finance-related responsibilities than to appoint a new substantive Finance Minister
