Thirty-three out of 35 former Municipal, Metropolitan, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) from Ghana’s Northern Region have announced their unconditional support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, ahead of the January 31, 2026 presidential primaries. The endorsement was highlighted in an exclusive interview with _The Voiceless_ media, where a former Northern Region vice‑dean praised Bawumia’s competence, marketing ability, and vision for a prosperous Ghana.
The supporting former MMDCEs, listed in the report, include Hon. Ahamed Abukari Iddirisu (Zabzugu), Hon. John Bashiru Yakubu (Zabzugu), Hon. Yakubu Bukari (Zabzugu), and others from various districts such as Yendi, Tamale, Gushegu, and Sagnarigu. They stated that Bawumia’s ideas can propel the NPP and Ghana forward.
Only two former DCEs—Hon. Dawuni Wumbei (Gushegu) and Hon. George (Saboba)—did not join the endorsement. According to _The Voiceless_, these two are aligned with Hon. Bryan Acheampong and may support him in the Northern Region.
Political analysts view the declaration as a major expression of confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy for the 2028 election.
