The president of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama has presented forty (40) armoured vehicles to the Ghana Police Service, describing the move as a major step in the government’s efforts to strengthen national security and enhance crime-fighting operations.

The vehicles, comprising specialised armoured units and operational pickups, were handed over at a brief ceremony at the Police Headquarters in Accra.

Speaking at the event, President Mahama said the investment demonstrates the government’s commitment to adequately resource the security agencies to protect citizens and maintain law and order.

He assured the public that this is only the beginning of a broader retooling programme. According to him, the new fleet will be complemented by two tow trucks, ten covert operational vehicles, and pickup trucks for every police district office to support patrol duties across the country.

President Mahama noted that security officers deserve the highest level of protection as they carry out their duties, adding that too many personnel have lost their lives due to a lack of necessary equipment.

He reaffirms his government’s determination to modernise and upgrade the capacity of the police and other security institutions, stressing that no chances will be taken with national security.

The President cautioned that those who break the law will not escape justice, emphasising that peace is not accidental but built through continuous investment, institutional strengthening, professionalism, and vigilance.

The Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service (IGP) expressed appreciation for the support, describing it as timely and crucial for improving operational efficiency.
