In a bold step toward community empowerment and local economic development, Hon. Dominic Napare, Member of Parliament, has successfully organized a five-day capacity-building training for beauticians and fashion designers within his constituency. The initiative, which aims to strengthen local skills and reduce dependence on external services, marks a significant milestone in promoting self-reliance and job creation among the youth.

For years, residents have often traveled to major cities like Accra, Kumasi, and Tamale to access professional beauty and fashion services. However, research conducted within the community revealed that fashion designers and beauticians are key drivers of local and global economic growth, playing a vital role in innovation and entrepreneurship.

Recognizing this, the Member of Parliament took proactive measures to bring professional trainers from top institutions in Accra to deliver hands-on training to participants in his constituency. The program was structured in batches, ensuring that every interested individual had the opportunity to participate.

The first batch of the training program successfully graduated 111 participants — comprising 70 fashion designers and 41 beauticians. These participants have acquired modern skills in areas such as fashion design, beauty therapy, business management, marketing strategies, and customer relations, enabling them to compete effectively with professionals across Ghana and beyond.

Hon. Napare emphasized that the training will not only equip participants with technical expertise but also enhance their competitiveness and entrepreneurial capacity. “Our goal is to ensure that people no longer have to leave the constituency to seek these services elsewhere. We want to build a vibrant, self-sustaining local economy,” he noted.

Stakeholders, including representatives from the Ghana Health Service (GHS), private schools, and other institutions, were invited to the graduation ceremony to encourage them to patronize local service providers. By sourcing uniforms, beauty services, and clothing locally, these institutions can significantly boost the constituency’s economy and support job creation.

To ensure continuity, Hon. Napare announced plans to establish resource centers equipped with essential tools such as industrial sewing machines, embroidery machines, and knitting machines. These centers will serve as hubs for ongoing training and innovation, helping both masters and apprentices to improve their craft.

Hon. Napare appealed to all beauticians and fashion designers to work together in unity and avoid misunderstandings, emphasizing that teamwork and peace are critical to progress. “When we are united, we can attract more support and achieve greater things together,” he stated.

He also assured participants that he would continue to advocate for more training programs and partnerships with youth agencies and employment-focused organizations to further enhance the skills and employability of his constituents.
