The Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Northern Region has issued a strong warning to presidential aspirants and their supporters, urging them to avoid divisive tactics as the party heads into its presidential primaries on 31st January 2026.

At a meeting with coordinators of all aspirants in the Tamale Central Constituency, the Council expressed concern over the rising use of inflammatory language within the party’s internal contest. The Elders cautioned that such conduct, if unchecked, could damage the NPP’s reputation and weaken its chances against the opposition in the 2028 general elections.

Council Chairman stated: “No matter how spirited the campaign becomes, destroying one another will only serve the interests of our opponents. Even if your candidate wins, a fractured party cannot win the confidence of the Ghanaian people.”

The Elders revealed that they will closely monitor both traditional and social media for abusive or derogatory remarks. Campaign teams whose supporters are found guilty will be summoned to account for their actions.

The statement stressed that discipline and respect must guide all campaign activities, insisting that unity after the primaries will be the single most important factor in retaining political power.
