News Desk Report :

The past New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has been credited with significantly expanding Ghana’s tertiary education landscape through the establishment of four new universities and the completion of two major expansion projects.

As part of efforts to widen access to higher education and equip the youth with practical skills, the administration spearheaded the creation of new universities in key regions. These included the Local Government University at Akomadan in the Offinso North District of the Ashanti Region, the University of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences at Bunso in the Eastern Region, the School of Railway and Infrastructure Development at Sekondi in the Western Region, and the University of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Akrodie in the Ahafo Region.

In addition, the government completed Phase II of the two existing universities. The University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ho, Volta Region, saw the construction of additional facilities that now make it home to the largest midwifery school in West Africa. Similarly, Phase II of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development in Somanya, Eastern Region, was completed to boost research and training in sustainability and climate studies.

These projects, according to the NPP, stand as a legacy of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration’s commitment to human capital development and balanced regional growth through education
