The Mayor of Tamale, Hon. Abu Takoro, has underscored the importance of collective responsibility in sustaining peace and development in the Northern Region.
He made the remarks at the launch of a peacebuilding initiative by Youth for Peace and Security at the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly Auditorium.
The project, on the theme “Inclusive Action for Lasting Peace,” seeks to train and engage 1,200 young people and women across Northern Ghana in peacebuilding and conflict resolution. It is expected to empower communities to foster coexistence, prevent conflict, and strengthen resilience.
The event brought together the Deputy Energy Minister and MP for Gomoa West, Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah, the Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Ali Adolf John Mburidiba, traditional leaders, security agencies, the National Peace Council, and civil society organisations.
Hon. Takoro stressed that peace is not just the absence of conflict, but a prerequisite for sustainable development in areas such as education, health, and economic growth.
