Kennedy Agyapong says Dr Bawumia should not be renominated as the NPP flagbearer because his performance in the 2024 elections was “abysmal”. He (Kennedy) would have performed WORST if he was our Presidential candidate then. We all know we lost so badly because DMB rode on a weak and spiritless party, unpopular government and overly incompetent National leadership. I respect the right of Kennedy to criticise DMB as the immediate past presidential candidate but l do have a responsibility to point out the falsehood, propaganda and ignorance in his criticism.

Whatever Kennedy Agyapong says about Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, it does change the fact that DMB is loved and cherished by the overwhelming masses of our party people and will eventually emerge the winner in the NPP flagbearership contest for 2028.

I encourage a decent contest. Anyone seeking to become the flagbearer of our party has the right to do so. We are an active democratic party and choose our leaders democratically via competitive elections. This is who we are. We must be proud that our party has been an excellent practitioner of democracy for over three decades. We have demonstrated huge commitment in this business.

What the NPP will not do is to abandon the person who led the charge since 2008 and completely destroyed the NDC until we won power 2016 and got re-elected in 2020. DMB was the lead NPP campaigner for twelve good years. He was our story teller; and he captivated Ghanaians with our inspiring story. He also exposed the inadequacies of the NDC. Love him or loathe him, he was our major “tool” in our twelve year extended effort to regain power. We will not leave this COMPETENT, HONOURABLE, HARWORKING, INTELLIGENT and HUMBLE man “high and dry”.

I have argued spiritedly on numerous platforms that DMB will win the flagbearership contest with a greater percentage. My reasoned position is that it will be HIGHLY UNLIKELY for any contender to beat DMB.

Several reasons will account for DMB’s victory. Let me enumerate few of them.

1. He is the most popular and marketed politician in Ghana today. He has the confidence of the majority of our party people across the country and around the world. Repeating him will be to our advantage.

2. The NPP folk will not abandon him. He is seen as a unifier. He conducts himself in the most exemplary manner. He is unassuming and egoless.

3. He is bold, brave and DREADED by the NDC. DMB is a fighter and a progressive. We need him to lead us to continue the fight for victory in 2028.

4. He is modern, innovative, eloquent, versatile, responsible, calm and respectful. These are notable qualities of good leaders.

5. A president has responsibilities domestically and internationally to ensure that good governance and economic development are achieved and also lead in shaping the relationships between Ghana and other countries and international organizations. DMB’s background in finance and economics and his EXCELLENT track record as a former Vice President makes him the most outstanding person to be our 2028 presidential candidate and Ghana’s President in 2029 to maintain our relevance in today’s unstable and cumbersome global economic and diplomatic “disorder”.

DMB’s triumph will be for the ENTIRE party. No one will be left out. He will be guided by the mistakes of the 2024 campaign. And lnsha-Allah, the NPP will be victorious in 2028.

Supporters and sympathisers of DMB must therefore be decent, measured and conduct themselves decorously in any conversation around the flabearership contest. Do not be provoked. Do not take the bait. Stay calm and push strongly and positively for DMB.

It makes sense for us (DMB supporters and advocates) to demonstrate kindness and tolerance in the way we relate with other candidates and their supporters so that mobilising the party around DMB after the “friendly” internal contest will be easier.

Our ultimate objective is to defeat NDC in 2028 – “simplicita”! And DMB is our strongest foot and most appropriate person to lead the charge for the second time to execute the task. He needs our FULLEST support, most SINCERE guidance, HONEST feedback and an open, welcoming, humble and easily accessible team around him. Anyone working for DMB must consciously or subconsciously mirror him. Read about “power behind the throne”

Our support for his candidacy must be geared towards making him a better candidate. We should be motivated by DMB’s inspiration, valour and drive manifested in various ways, including working broadly with the party; and finding additional strength, wisdom and ideas to overcome our challenges and correct the MISTAKES we made in the 2024 elections campaign; providing a renewed sense of purpose, and a desire to making our party stronger, competitive and result-oriented by identifying the mistakes made, understanding the context, and making appropriate changes to rectifying them. This MUST apply to the various organisational layers of the party from Polling station through to Constituency, Regional and National.

In the 1992 elections, the NDC rigged the elections and we wrote the “stolen verdict”. In the 1996 elections, we lost to the NDC because we threw out Professor Adu Boahen who was our candidate in the 1992 elections and nominated JAK. We repeated JAK in the 2000 elections after he lost in the 1996 elections. It made sense because he won.

NADAA lost in 2008 and 2012 and won in 2016. We persistently made NADAA the flagbearer until he won in the 2016 elections. DMB should be given another chance. Historical precedent (repeating our failed presidential candidates after their first or second attempts) and winning in the fullness of time serves as a foundational reason for our party to renominate DMB for 2028. It justifies or explains why he is the MOST ideal person to bear our flag again into the 2028 elections.

The proverbial saying that – what is good for the goose is equally good for the gander surges DMB’s bid to retain the role of flagbearer for the 2028 elections.

We are all in it together and MUST win 2028 together.

DMB remains the mover and shaker. Let’s all support him.
