The Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a directive urging party members to cease campaigning for internal positions. This appeal comes in the wake of the party’s disappointing performance in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

In a letter dated January 13, 2024, and signed by the Council’s Chairman, Hon. Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, party members must prioritize unity and rebuilding efforts over individual ambitions. The statement reads;

“We wish to remind ourselves that the focus of the Party at this critical time is to organize a detailed assessment of the causes of the Party’s dismaying performance in the recent elections In pursuance of this goal, an Election Review Committee chaired by Professor Mike Oquaye has been set up by the NPP National Council. The Committee is expected to, within three months. Engage Party members, stakeholders, and the general public on its terms of reference, after which it shall submit a report containing its findings and recommendations

Fellow members of NPP, this is the time for us to soberly reflect on what happened to us in 2024. Time for internal competition shall certainly come to pass. For the moment, we must rebuild and energize our party”.

The Council emphasized the need for unity and reflection during this critical period, urging members to prioritize the party’s renewal over internal competition.
