The Member of Parliament for Savelugu, Honourable Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, has officially launched the maiden edition of the “She Grows” Conference 2026, a flagship initiative designed to support and empower over 500 women farmers across the constituency and beyond.

Held under the theme “Her Hands, Our Harvest — The Future is Fertile,” the conference brought together women farmers, agricultural experts, development partners, traditional leaders, policymakers, and business leaders to discuss practical strategies for increasing women’s participation and productivity in agriculture.

Speaking at the event, Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz emphasized the critical role women play in Ghana’s agricultural sector, noting that despite contributing significantly to food production, many women continue to face barriers such as limited access to land, credit facilities, modern farming technologies, and markets.

“Women are the backbone of our agricultural economy. Yet many of them continue to operate under difficult conditions. Through the She Grows Conference, we are creating a platform that not only celebrates their contribution but also equips them with the tools, knowledge, and opportunities needed to thrive,” she stated.

Participants engaged in interactive sessions focusing on climate-smart agriculture, value addition, agribusiness management, digital marketing, access to finance, and leadership development.

Agricultural extension officers and experts also provided technical guidance on improving crop yields and adapting to changing climatic conditions.

Traditional authorities, including chiefs and queen mothers from various communities, commended the initiative and pledged their support towards improving women’s access to productive resources, particularly land for farming activities.

The conference also served as a networking platform where women farmers connected with financial institutions, agricultural input suppliers, development organizations, and potential buyers of agricultural produce.

According to the organizers, the initiative forms part of a broader agenda to enhance food security, reduce poverty, and promote inclusive economic growth in the Northern Region.

Beneficiaries are expected to receive continuous mentorship, capacity-building opportunities, and support in accessing agricultural financing and markets.

Stakeholders at the event described the conference as timely, particularly as Ghana seeks to strengthen its agricultural sector and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for women and youths.

As the maiden edition concludes, organizers say plans are already underway to institutionalize the She Grows Conference as an annual event, with the ambition of reaching thousands more women farmers across the country in the coming years.
