The National Council of the opposition NPP has thrown out a petition aimed at stopping former National Chairman, Mr.  Paul Afoko from contesting in the upcoming internal elections.

The NC which sat on Wednesday and Thursday, rejected the petition to have Mr. Afoko disqualified since according to them, the former suspended chairman had served the 10-year ban as stipulated in the party’s constitution.

Third National Vice Chairman of the NPP, Alhaji Osman Masahudu told tolonradio.com that the petitioner argued that Mr. Paul Afoko is not qualified to contest the chairmanship position following his suspension some time ago by the party, but the council rejected it.

“After reading the petition at the council meeting, we agreed that since it has been over 10 years since his suspension, he is qualified to contest the chairmanship, so we put that aside”, he revealed.

Ken Agyapong Petitions

Alhaji Masahudu however disclosed that, the party received about 10 petitions demanding the dismissal of former Assin Central MP, Honourable Ken Ohene Agyapong from the party for alleged anti-party behavior.

“The council received 10 petitions demanding that we sack Ken Agyapong from the party”, he revealed.

According to him, several voices at the meeting demanded immediate action against Ken Agyapong who they accused of trying to destroy the party, but others insisted that he should be taken through the disciplinary process of the party.

“We opened all the petitions against Ken Agyapong, and all were demanding that he should be sacked from the party. Some of us agreed with the demand from the party supporters but others said we should allow the disciplinary committee to look into the matter”. Alhaji Masahudu said.

He disclosed that after several minutes of disagreements the Acting National Chairman of the party referred the matter to the disciplinary committee who have been given two weeks to come back with a report.
