A mobile money vendor has been shot dead, while another person is battling for his life following a daring armed robbery attack at the Gomoa Dominase Onion Market in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.

The incident, which occurred during business hours, has left traders and residents in fear and renewed concerns over security in the area.

According to eyewitness accounts, five heavily armed men stormed the bustling Gomoa Dominase Onion Market and launched a violent attack, firing more than 20 rounds of ammunition.

The robbers reportedly targeted a mobile money operator believed to have been carrying a substantial amount of cash.

In the process, they opened fire on the victim, fatally wounding him before making away with an undisclosed sum of money.

Another individual who was caught in the attack sustained severe gunshot wounds and is currently receiving treatment in critical condition at a health facility.

Speaking to the media, an eyewitness, Yussif Mohammed, recounted the horrifying scene, stating that the deceased was shot multiple times in the stomach, neck, and back.

According to him, the sound of the gunfire initially caused panic among traders and residents, many of whom thought police officers were conducting an operation in the area.

He explained that due to the intensity of the shooting, people fled for safety and were unable to move closer to the scene until the attackers had escaped.

The incident brought trading activities at the market to a temporary halt as frightened traders abandoned their stalls and rushed to seek shelter.

Residents say the attack highlights the growing threat of armed robbery in the area and are calling on the police and other security agencies to intensify patrols and improve security, particularly around mobile money businesses, which have increasingly become targets of criminal attacks.

Police officers later arrived at the scene to begin investigations and gather evidence.

The body of the deceased has since been conveyed to a mortuary, while efforts are underway to track down the perpetrators.

The incident has left the entire Gomoa Dominase community in shock, with residents urging authorities to take immediate action to prevent similar attacks.
