The Overlord of the Kusaug Traditional Area in the Upper East Region, Naaba Asigri Abugraogo Azoka II, has cautioned against divisive narratives that seeks to create more problems in the area which has not seen peace for years due to the ethnic conflict.

According to him, communities have endured fear, displacement, uncertainty and trauma, hence the need to focus on building a peaceful atmosphere for the development of the area.

Naaba Azoka II who spoke during the enskinment of some 10 chiefs at his palace in Bawku, cautioned the new chiefs that chieftaincy is not a license to harass subjects, but a duty to calm tensions.

He urged the chiefs to be the tools of calming down tensions anytime something went wrong in their jurisdictions.

Touching on the outcome of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II led mediation, the overlord praised the monarch for listening to both sides in the process and delivering a decision that is returning the area to relative peace.

The Kusuag traditional area has been ingulfed in an ethnic conflict which has spanned leading to the death of many indigens of the area and has led to the destruction of property running into millions of cedis.

But addressing the newly enskinned chiefs, Naaba Asigri Abugraogo Azoka II,appealed for more efforts at ensuring that the area is healed from the conflict.

The newly enskined chiefs of Denugu and Tansia pledged to make the pursuit of peace a priority in their communities. They appealed to existing members of the Traditional council to support them in assisting the Zugraan to maintain stability in Kusaug.
