At the 13th memorial anniversary of the late former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, held in Accra on Sunday, November 15,2025, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia hailed the revered statesman as a “national unifier whose legacy continues to guide Ghana’s political and social journey.”
Gathered alongside the National Chief Imam, His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, dignitaries, family members, and well wishers, Dr. Bawumia described the late Aliu Mahama as a leader whose humility, tolerance and dedication to national cohesion remain unmatched in Ghana’s contemporary political history.

He urged Ghanaians, particularly the youth and political actors to emulate the unifying spirit of the late Vice President, stressing that Ghana’s progress depends on leaders and citizens who choose peace over division.
“Alhaji Aliu Mahama lived a life of service, modesty, and unshakeable commitment to unity. At a time when political discourse is often polarised, his legacy reminds us of the power of respect, dialogue, and nation-first leadership,” Dr. Bawumia said.
Participants at the event reflected on the many contributions of the late Aliu Mahama, including his strong advocacy for discipline, national cohesion and development during his tenure as Vice President from 2001 to 2009.
The annual commemorative Adua continues to serve as a moment for national reflection, celebrating a leader whose impact transcended politics and whose memory continues to inspire hope for a more united Ghana.
