Ghana Govt pledges support for homegrown tech

The Ghanaian government is committed to backing local technology, with Minister Samuel Nartey George emphasizing the need to nurture local talent and resources. Speaking at the Africa Internet Summit, he highlighted initiatives to drive the country’s digital economy.

The one million coders programme is to Train Ghanaians in coding, AI, and software development.

Ghana aims to become Africa’s AI hub in four years and plans to tackle decoder piracy and promote Ghanaian entertainment.

The government is working to shift Ghana from a consumer of foreign tech to a producer of homegrown solutions, supporting start-ups and promoting open digital infrastructure to boost local innovation and entrepreneurship, which will create jobs and stimulate economic growth to Enhance Ghana’s global competitiveness in tech.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the government’s commitment, citing the potential for growth and development in Ghana’s tech sector.
