At least 30 people have been confirmed dead and more than 400 displaced following violent intercommunal clashes at Gbenyiri in the Savannah Region of Ghana.

The violence has forced some families to flee across the border into Côte d’Ivoire’s Bounkani Region, where they are seeking safety.

In response, the Ivorian government has stepped in with relief supplies. On Saturday, August 31, 2025, the Minister of Economy and Planning, Nialé Kaba, dispatched a delegation to the towns of Vonkoro and Massioutéon to deliver food and non-food items to the affected refugees and their host communities.

According to a local news report from APA news, in a brief ceremony in Vonkoro, the Ivorian officials handed over three tons of rice, 100 sleeping mats, 260 buckets, and two cartons of cooking oil. The donation was received by local leaders, including Prefecture Secretary General Michel Ziao and the Zanzan Regional Director of Planning and Development, Sylla Boubacar.

Minister Kaba expressed solidarity with the victims, praising the people of Bounkani for their generosity and spirit of brotherhood in welcoming the refugees. She stressed that Côte d’Ivoire’s gesture reflects its commitment to peace, hospitality, and social cohesion in the subregion.

Humanitarian agencies continue to warn of worsening conditions as displaced families struggle to rebuild their lives in temporary shelters.
