President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday inspected ongoing works on the 33.4km Ofankor–Nsawam dualisation project and urged the contractor, Maripoma Enterprise Limited, to speed up work, while ensuring quality standards.
“As government commits to paying you well, you must move faster and use quality materials,” the President said. He also directed the contractor to strengthen traffic management to keep goods and people moving smoothly along the critical Accra–Kumasi corridor.
President Mahama expressed concerns about the project’s financial history, questioning how the original loan was used up before completion and why nearly $78 million in Ghana Cedis had to be paid from the Government of Ghana’s funds.
He has directed a review to establish what happened and ensure accountability.
The project is at a 75% completion rate, according to Chief Resident Engineer Kwabena Bimpong. He indicated that the project will be completed in June 2026.
