The Minister for Education and Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has paid the tuition fees of 47 continuing medical students in the Tamale Central Constituency, amounting to GH¢188,000.
The sponsorship, initiated by the late MP for Tamale Central and former Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, has now been taken over by the Education Minister.
Hon. Haruna made the pledge during the final funeral rites of the late Dr. Murtala Muhammed, committing to fund the students’ fees until they complete their medical training in various universities nationwide.
The initiative, according to the late MP, was intended to bridge the doctor-patient gap in the Northern Region and improve healthcare delivery. Beneficiary students are expected to serve as doctors and surgeons in the future.
Hon. Haruna emphasised that the gesture was a way of honouring his late colleague’s legacy, describing it as an investment in the future of the constituency and the nation.
