President John Dramani Mahama has suspended all official government activities nationwide for the rest of the week, following the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including two senior government ministers.
The crash, which occurred on Wednesday, has plunged the nation into mourning. A statement released by the presidency and signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications and Spokesperson to the President, described the incident as a “national tragedy.”
As part of the government’s response, a three-day national mourning period will begin on Thursday, 7 August. All national flags are to fly at half-mast until further notice, as directed by the Chief of Staff.
President Mahama, according to the statement, is “deeply saddened” by the loss and has expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.
Further investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash.
