Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, National Coordinator DRIP, has raised concerns about the upcoming by-election in Akwatia following recent electoral disturbances in Ablekuma North.

Speaking on the morning show on Channel One TV early morning, the former Odododiodo MP cited the violent incidents that marred the Ablekuma North rerun as a cause for fear and apprehension.

“I am scared for Akwatia,” he stated bluntly, emphasising that the current climate may deter individuals like himself from participating in or monitoring the Akwatia polls.

He urged Ghanaians and political stakeholders to view the Ablekuma North events not as a political battle, but as a cautionary tale of vendetta-fueled violence that must not be repeated.

“Let’s see the Ablekuma North rerun as an incident of a vendetta and not politicise it,” he advised.

The DRIP National Coordinator called on the Electoral Commission, security agencies, and political parties to work together to ensure a peaceful, calm and credible process in Akwatia.

The Ablekuma North rerun, held earlier this week, was marred by pockets of violence and reports of intimidation, including the assault of journalists and some NPP executives, raising national concerns about electoral security ahead of future polls.
