Member of Parliament for Karaga and Ranking Member on the Finance Committee, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to regroup and re-energise following its 2024 electoral defeat, stressing that the ruling NDC’s policy failures are opening a clear path for an NPP comeback.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Dr. Amin Adam said the NPP’s internal challenges are not uncommon for an opposition party, emphasizing that the party must quickly rediscover its “winning formula” ahead of the 2028 elections.

The Karaga Legislator accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of mismanaging the economy, citing tax hikes, increased electricity tariffs, job losses, and growing insecurity. The most recent tax increase, dubbed the “Dumsor Levy”, took effect today and has sparked concerns from transport unions and households over rising living costs.

“The goodwill they [NDC] enjoyed at the outset of their administration is rapidly eroding,” he said, warning that the government’s refusal to address concerns over worsening living standards is costing it public trust.

Dr. Amin Adam also criticised the NDC for allegedly manipulating economic data, pointing to an IMF report that revealed the Bank of Ghana had intervened with $1.4 billion in the forex market, contradicting earlier denials. He further challenged the credibility of the government’s financing strategy, highlighting that 13 out of 28 treasury auctions since January have failed.

He questioned the sustainability of the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy programme, calling it “a theoretical construct with attractive visuals,” lacking funding and implementation clarity.

Despite acknowledging that the road ahead may be tough, Dr. Amin Adam expressed optimism about the NPP’s future. “Three years may seem distant, but in political terms it is just around the corner,” he noted, urging party faithful to rally behind leadership ahead of the National Delegates Conference and presidential primaries.

“We have the capability and the resolve to rise above our current challenges, regain the trust of the Ghanaian people, and return to power,” he said.
