“Our commitment to the education of our people remain solid! “- Former Finance Minister and Karaga, Hon Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam writes on his Facebook page

In a region where access to quality education has long been hindered by infrastructure deficits and limited opportunities, the Member of Parliament for Karaga Constituency and former Minister for Finance, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, affectionately known as “Anta”, is quietly leading a determined effort to reverse the trend.

With a clear focus on sustainable development through education, Hon Dr. Amin Adam has initiated a series of impactful projects aimed at reshaping the future of not only Karaga but the broader Northern Region.

Among the most significant undertakings is the Karaga STEM College of Education, currently under construction. Once completed, the college is expected to serve as a regional hub for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics training fields critical to Ghana’s development agenda.

Additionally, Pishigu Senior High School and the Nyong Technical Institute have already opened their doors, providing hundreds of students with access to both academic and vocational education.

Efforts to improve basic education are also well underway. Eleven new primary school blocks have been constructed across some selected schools in the constituency to reduce overcrowding and enhance learning conditions.

Meanwhile, the Binduli STEM Junior High School, currently under construction, is set to further bolster access to science-focused education at the junior level.

The Karaga Skills Training Centre, which has been fully completed, is equipping youth with employable skills in tailoring, carpentry, and information technology empowering them to create livelihoods in a region often plagued by job scarcity.

Understanding the financial hurdles many students face, Hon Dr. Amin Adam established the ANTA Scholarship Fund, which has so far supported over 1,000 students. These scholarships have enabled beneficiaries to pursue higher education and technical training, many of whom might otherwise have been left behind.

Hon Dr. Amin Adam’s commitment to education does not end at the borders of Karaga. Across the Northern Region, classroom blocks are being constructed in Nobisco, Tamasco, Markaziyya, and Zogbeli, while a new dormitory is rising at Ambariyya to accommodate students from distant communities.

Further financial interventions include:

A GH¢1 million Education Endowment Fund for Aboabo

GH¢500,000 each allocated to support Zogbeli and journalists in the Northern Region

GH¢200,000 dedicated to assisting students of the University for Development Studies (UDS)

“If we want to see long-term change in our communities, it starts with education,” Dr. Amin Adam remarked. “It’s the greatest gift we can give to the next generation.”

Dr. Amin Adam’s initiatives are not only transforming the educational landscape; they are restoring hope in communities that have long felt overlooked. The steady rise of schools, training centres, and scholarship schemes marks more than development it signals a renewed belief in the power of education to uplift generations.
