Two suspects Arrested Over Murder of Lebanese Man at East Legon

The Ghana Police Service has arrested two men in connection with the shocking murder of a 58-year-old Lebanese national, Mr. Omar Mikati, at his East Legon residence on Friday, June 20, 2025.

According to police sources, Mr. Mikati was found lifeless in his home, lying in a pool of blood. The disturbing discovery was made after a neighbour reported unusual silence and lack of activity from the usually sociable businessman. Officers from the Police Headquarters’ Crime Scene Management Unit (CSMU) were quickly dispatched to the scene to gather forensic evidence.

Although some of the victim’s valuables including two iPhones were left untouched, his Samsung phone was missing. Investigators also discovered a GCB ATM card at the scene, bearing the name Paul Twumasi Ankrah. This became a critical lead in the investigation.

Based on the evidence, police arrested 31-year-old Paul Twumasi Ankrah at his residence in Samsam Medie. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed and named an accomplice Asiedu Henning, also known as Nana Kofi Anum.

Acting swiftly on intelligence, officers arrested Henning on July 2, 2025, at his hideout in Kutunse. He later led investigators to a location where the suspects had allegedly discarded the murder weapon a knife. The weapon has since been recovered and is undergoing forensic testing.

Both suspects appeared before the Adabraka District Court 1 earlier this week. They have been remanded into police custody and are expected to reappear in court on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mikati’s body has been deposited at the morgue, pending a full autopsy. The Lebanese community in Accra has expressed deep sadness over the incident, describing him as a kind and hardworking man who had lived in Ghana for over a decade.

Police say they are committed to ensuring justice is served and have urged the public to remain calm as the legal process unfolds.
