The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man in connection with the possession of a large quantity of suspected Indian hemp following an intelligence-led operation in Akatsi, in the Volta Region.
The suspect, identified as Bukari Yakubu, was apprehended at his residence in the early hours of Saturday, May 10, 2025, at around 1:00am. The arrest came after days of surveillance by the Police.
According to a statement by the police, a search conducted at the suspect’s home led to the discovery of ninety-two (92) slabs of a substance wrapped in yellowish material, believed to be Indian hemp. In addition, two Royal motorbikes, suspected to be stolen, were also retrieved from the premises.
The police’s Preliminary investigations suggest that Mr. Yakubu has been actively involved in the narcotics trade within Akatsi and its neighbouring communities. During initial questioning, the suspect reportedly admitted ownership of the seized items.
Mr. Yakubu is currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations, and is expected to be arraigned before a court in the coming days.
The Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking and related criminal activities and urged the public to report any suspicious activity to aid law enforcement efforts.
