President John Dramani Mahama has dismissed Dr. Adam Atiku, Chief Executive Officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), following allegations of medical negligence that reportedly led to the death of a patient at the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Ward.
The decision comes in response to growing public concern over the hospital’s deteriorating standards in healthcare delivery. Reports of malfunctioning medical equipment, negligence from staff and inadequate emergency care have raised alarm among residents and healthcare stakeholders.
Earlier today, the Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akando, accompanied by the Tamale North MP and Deputy Road Minister, Hon Alhassan S. Suhuyini, paid a visit to the facility. Sources say the minister was met with visible dissatisfaction from some members of the hospital’s management. After engaging with staff and touring the premises, he described the situation as dire and emphasized the urgent need for intervention.
In the interim, the Ministry of Health is expected to appoint a temporary CEO to oversee the hospital’s operations while investigations into the incident are underway.
