The Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akando, paid an unannounced visit to the Tamale Teaching Hospital following growing public concern over the management of the facility after the reported death of a patient at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The visit, which took place on Tuesday 22 April, saw the minister accompanied by the Member of Parliament for Tamale North and the Deputy Minister for Roads. Together, they interacted with staff and the hospital’s management to understand the situation firsthand.
Hon. Akando expressed deep dissatisfaction with the way the facility is being run, particularly criticizing the attitude and response of the management team during his visit.
“Look at how you are behaving in front of me,” the minister said in a strongly worded statement. “So you can imagine how you treat ordinary citizens here. How can you behave like this? It means worse things are happening here.”
Clearly frustrated, the minister stated that there are serious issues at the hospital that must be addressed urgently to restore public trust and ensure quality healthcare delivery.
His visit comes at a time when concerns about patient care and hospital administration are mounting, with citizens calling for swift action and accountability.
