The Health Committee of Ghana’s Parliament has today commenced a four-day fact-finding tour of Regional and Teaching Hospitals across the country. The tour, which runs from Tuesday, April 22 to Friday, April 25, forms part of the committee’s constitutional mandate to oversee healthcare delivery and infrastructure nationwide.
The initiative aims to address ongoing concerns raised by healthcare facilities about the lack of adequate and modern medical equipment. According to committee member Alexander Roosevelt, the tour was prompted by persistent complaints regarding obsolete or insufficient equipment in many regional and teaching hospitals in the country.
“This is necessary because now and then certain complaints come up either in the form of lack of equipment or obsolete equipment at the health facilities,” Mr. Roosevelt told Citi News. “So, this committee has decided to embark on a fact-finding tour to look at all these, to make recommendations to government to find solutions.”
During the tour, committee members are expected to engage hospital administrators, medical professionals, and patients to gather firsthand information. The findings will guide future healthcare policies and inform government funding allocations aimed at improving health infrastructure and service delivery.
The Health Committee’s visits are seen as a crucial step toward ensuring quality healthcare access and enhancing accountability in the management of health facilities and medical resources across the country.
