The Member of Parliament for Savelugu Constituency, Hon. Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, has marked her first 100 days in office with a message of gratitude, action, and commitment to transformative leadership.

Since assuming office on January 7, 2025, Hon. Fatahiya has initiated a series of impactful projects aimed at improving infrastructure, water access, job creation, and community engagement across the constituency.

Infrastructure and Road Development

In February, Hon. Fatahiya launched a township-wide pothole patching initiative to enhance road safety and ease transport within Savelugu.
She also supported the construction of the Zosali River Wall by donating some bags of cement, a move aimed at protecting local water sources and preventing future shortages.

Efforts to expedite the Savelugu-Kumbungu Bypass Road that linked Balshee to Gbanyeli are ongoing. The MP described the road as “a vital artery for trade and agriculture” and promised continued advocacy for its completion.

Water Access and Security

Addressing a pressing water crisis in January, the MP dispatched two water tankers to provide emergency relief to affected communities. To ensure sustainable access, she launched a borehole expansion project focused on long-term water provision.

Empowering Youth and Driving Industrial Growth

On March 5, Hon. Fatahiya inaugurated the Northshore Apparel Project, a local manufacturing initiative expected to generate hundreds of jobs, particularly for women and youth. She also engaged with Mr Paul Edwards from the British High Commission to attract further investment to the Northern Region.

Grassroots Engagement and Leadership

Demonstrating her commitment to inclusive governance, Hon. Fatahiya has embarked on a constituency-wide “Thank You” tour, visiting communities such as Kukobila, Diare, Pigu, and Bogu. She continues to engage traditional leaders, including Nyab Yoo-Naa and Nyab Kpatuli Lana, to align development efforts with local traditions and values.

Advocating for Women and Girls

In March, the MP represented Ghana at the Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians in Mexico City, where she shared the challenges and successes of Savelugu, and explored new strategies to empower women and girls.

Her dedication to gender advocacy is reflected in her role as Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament’s Committee on Gender, Children and Social Welfare. She also contributes to the Committees on Ethics and Standards, and Sanitation.

Transparency and Accountability

Through initiatives such as SaveluguRising and WorkingForThePeople, Hon. Fatahiya is promoting transparency and citizen participation in governance.

“Leadership is not about perfection—it is about presence, persistence, and prayer,” she remarked.

As she moves forward, Hon. Fatahiya Abdul Aziz reaffirmed her vision of servant leadership and pledged to build on the momentum of her first 100 days in office.
