In a significant step towards fostering peace and stability in the Northern Region, the Northern Regional Peace Council has paid a courtesy visit to the newly appointed Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Ali Adolf John. The visit, which took place on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, was both a congratulatory gesture and a call for stronger collaboration in addressing peace and security challenges in the region.

Led by its Regional Executive Secretary, Fr Thaddeus Kuusah, the Peace Council commended the minister on his appointment and expressed confidence in his leadership. The council emphasized the need for a united front in tackling the region’s security challenges, particularly in the wake of recent funding setbacks following the freeze on USAID support.

During the meeting, Fr Thaddeus Kuusah introduced the council members and outlined their mandate in promoting peace, conflict resolution, and community engagement. He highlighted key challenges, including financial constraints that have hindered the council’s ability to implement vital peace initiatives. The withdrawal of USAID support, he noted, had significantly impacted their operations, making it imperative to explore alternative funding sources.

In response, Hon. Ali Adolf John assured the Peace Council of his unwavering commitment to peace and stability in the region. As the Chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), he underscored the critical role of peace in fostering economic development and social cohesion. The minister emphasized his ongoing engagements with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure that conflicts are swiftly addressed before they escalate.

To strengthen collaboration, Fr Thaddeus Kuusah proposed a strategic meeting between the Peace Council, the minister, and REGSEC. This meeting, he explained, would provide a platform to brief the minister on the peace situation in the region and explore solutions to existing challenges. The minister welcomed the idea, pledging to facilitate discussions and advocate for more governmental and donor support for peace-building efforts.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to working together to sustain peace in the region. Hon. Ali Adolf John reiterated that his administration would prioritize security and stability, recognizing them as essential pillars for development.

As the Northern Region continues to navigate complex peace and security dynamics, the strengthened partnership between the Regional Peace Council and the minister signals a renewed effort to build lasting peace, ensuring that communities can thrive in a stable and secure environment.
