The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced its immediate withdrawal from all platforms operated by Media General, citing concerns about alleged bias and unprofessionalism in the media group’s political coverage.

In a statement signed by the party’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, the NPP expressed dissatisfaction with Media General’s handling of political discussions, describing it as unfair and unbalanced. The party noted that efforts to address these concerns with the media group since 2023 had not yielded the desired changes.

The statement pointed to instances of what the NPP considers unprofessional conduct. It referenced a program hosted by Keminni Amanor, during which a guest reportedly made inflammatory remarks about former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The party accused the host of failing to intervene, allowing the comments to go unchecked.

Further, the NPP criticized programs such as Key Points and Newday for consistently featuring panels that it claims were skewed in favor of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), leaving NPP representatives outnumbered.

“Despite repeated assurances since 2023, the observed unprofessionalism and unfairness persist,” the statement read. The NPP added that its efforts to advocate for balanced and objective coverage have “fallen on pretentious deaf ears.”

The party assured its members and the public that the withdrawal does not signal a retreat from holding the government accountable. It urged all NPP members to adhere to the directive and refrain from engaging with Media General platforms until further notice.

This development marks a significant moment in Ghana’s media and political landscape, raising questions about media objectivity and the relationship between political parties and the press. Media General is yet to issue a formal response to the NPP’s decision.
