The Diplomatic Corps in Ghana has commended the Vice President, Dr Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia for his sterling leadership shown aftermath the 2024 general elections.

According to the diplomats, Dr Bawumia accepting the outcome of the elections did not only reflect his integrity but his profound contribution to Ghana’s enviable democratic credentials.

The Diplomatic Corps made this commendation during a courtesy call on the Vice President earlier today Monday 23 December 2024 at the Jubilee House, Accra.

The Diplomatic Corps were led by their Dean, Ambassador of Lebanon His Excellency Maher Khier to the Jubilee House.

“On behalf of the Diplomatic Corps in Ghana, it is my great honour to commend a man whose actions continue to highlight the strength of Ghana’s democratic principles.  Your unwavering commitment to the values of democracy, especially through your honourable concession in the recent elections, stands as a testament to your statesmanship and love for this nation”. Ambassador Maher Khier said

“In moments of political transition, it is the strength of character and respect for the democratic process that define a leader”. He added

“Your grace in accepting the outcome is not only a reflection of your integrity but also a profound contribution to Ghana’s enviable democratic credentials, which serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration across the continent”.

The Lebanon Ambassador  noted that, the peaceful and dignified manner in which the 2024 Presidential Candidate of the NPP conducted himself underscores the maturity of Ghana’s democracy, “and the shared responsibility of all leaders to uphold the ideas of peace, unity, and progress for the nation”.

“Your actions reaffirm the confidence and trust the international community has in Ghana as a model for democratic governance”. He added

“As the diplomatic Corps, we applaud your example and encourage all stakeholders to continue strengthening this legacy. Let us celebrate Ghana’s democracy not just as a system but as a shared commitment to values that uplift its people and inspire others. We thank you for your exemplary leadership and wish you continue success as you contribute to the development of this great nation”.

In response Dr. Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia emphasized why he chose to give an early concession speech, reiterating that, the NPP through its internal collation mechanism, knew at dawn that the election had been lost. “Waiting for the EC to go through days of putting together their documents would lead to days of unnecessary tension and potential disturbances and violence. He chose to concede early and preserve Ghana’s peace”.

The Vice President said he was also concerned about the economic impact of any disturbances and violence, especially as the country is gradually recovering from the various challenges.

Again, he was concerned about the security implications for the subregion of any violence conflict in Ghana, stressing that, terrorists could take advantage and spread anarchy in the country.
