The Northern Regional Special Operations Team (Red Maria) has arrested a suspected drug dealer and recovered quantities of suspected narcotic substances during an anti-crime operation in Kanvili in the Northern Region. The operation, led by Chief Inspector Abu Issahaku, was carried out on June 15, 2026, as part of efforts to combat drug peddling and other criminal activities in the region.

According to the police, the team acted on credible intelligence and proceeded to Kanvili, where they arrested a 37-year-old suspect identified as Abugri Atia. The operation formed part of a broader anti-crime patrol being undertaken by the Special Operations Team across the region.

A search conducted in the suspect’s room led to the recovery of several exhibits, including half a parcel of suspected Indian hemp, one sachet of 250mg Royal Tramadol, and 126 wraps of a substance locally known as “wee toffee.” The recovered items have since been retained by the police as evidence.

The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations. Police say investigations are ongoing and have reaffirmed their commitment to combating drug related offences and ensuring the safety and security of residents in the Northern Region.
