The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested two men who allegedly posed as members of the Ghana Gold Board Taskforce in an attempt to extort money from unsuspecting gold dealers.
The suspects, identified as Foster Delord, 40, and Prince Worvi, 38, claimed to be ex-military officers. According to police reports, the two had been moving from one gold-buying shop to another, falsely presenting themselves as officials from the Taskforce and demanding money under the guise of enforcement duties.
Their activities came to light after a formal complaint was lodged with the police, prompting swift action by the command.
During their arrest, officers retrieved several items believed to have been used in the scheme, including a handcuff, pepper spray, an electric shocker, a set of military-style uniforms, and an amount of GH₵500.
Both suspects have been arraigned before the Tarkwa Circuit Court and have been remanded into police custody as investigations continue.
The Regional Police Command is urging the public, particularly those in the gold trading business, to be vigilant and demand proper identification from anyone claiming to represent government agencies.
This incident adds to growing concerns about impersonation and fraudulent activity within Ghana’s small-scale mining sector, a space that continues to be under close scrutiny by regulators.
