The two major political parties in Ghana, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democracy Party (NDC) in the Tolon Constituency has signed the 2024 election peace pact to ensure peace during before and after the December 7 general election.
The Northern Regional Peace Council facilitated the signing of the election peace pact by the representatives of both the NPP and NDC in the Tolon Constituency.
The NPP Constituency Vice Chairman Alhaji Issah Tia signed on behalf of the party whiles the NDC Constituency Chairman Alhaji Ziblim Adam signed for the NDC.
Before signing the election peace pact both the NPP and NDC Executives pledged to ensure peace during before and after the December 7 election.
The signing of the election peace pact was done after a two day workshop on peaceful elections and fight against extremist.
A board member of the Northern Regional Peace Council Alhaji Abdul Razak Saani said the initiative is to enable political parties to accept the outcome of the December 7 general election, adding that it will also foster unity among political parties.
Alhaji Saani said the Peace Council is very optimistic that the political parties will abide by the peace pact for the benefit of the entire nation.
Stakeholders for the election peace pact include the Electoral Commission (EC), National Peace Council, National Commission for Civil Education (NCCE), Civil Society Groups, PWDs, Traditional Authorities, women and political parties youth.
