In a dramatic escalation of political tension, Osman Wumpini Abukari, popularly known as Tigoman, is facing potential legal action after being accused of defaming former Sagnarigu Municipal Chief Executive, Mohammed Yakubu Ahmed (Hon Polo), during a widely viewed Facebook livestream broadcast.
In a demand notice dated 1st August 2025 and served by the reputable law firm Isang@Law, Mr. Abukari has been given ten (10) days to retract alleged false claims made against Mr. Ahmed or face court action. The notice, signed by Sylvester Isang Esq., was issued on behalf of Mr. Ahmed, a respected public figure and an active member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to the letter, during a live interview at Famous Studio on 31st July 2025, Tigoman accused Mr. Ahmed of secretly sabotaging the NPP during the 2024 General Elections by campaigning for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). He went further to allege that Mr. Ahmed’s supposed betrayal had been rewarded with a political appointment at Ghana Cocoa Board under the current NDC administration.
However, when a viewer, Ibrahim Bogkurugu sent in a comment to refute the claim during the broadcast, stating Mr. Ahmed had received no such appointment, Tigoman allegedly dismissed the correction, insisting that he “knew what he was talking about.”
The law firm argues that the broadcast was reckless, baseless, and malicious, noting that Tigoman either knew or should have known that the information was false. They maintain that the public defamation has led to significant damage to Mr. Ahmed’s reputation, including being viewed as a political traitor and a man of questionable loyalty, an image that directly contradicts his record of service and dedication to the NPP.
The demand notice outlines specific actions Tigoman must take to avoid legal consequences:
•A written, unqualified apology to Mr. Ahmed,
•A public retraction of the defamatory statement through the same online platform,
•A commitment not to repeat such statements in the future.
The letter also highlights that Mr. Ahmed (Hon Polo)is suffering from emotional and psychological distress as a direct result of the false allegations, and that further legal steps, including a lawsuit for defamation are being prepared should Tigoman fail to comply.
