The Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has announced a bold new initiative aimed at tackling youth unemployment by partnering with one of Ghana’s leading betting companies, Soccabet Ghana.
In a one-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between YEA and Soccabet, 500 young people across the country are expected to be recruited into various roles within the betting company. The collaboration, which marks a significant shift in the agency’s employment strategy, seeks to provide job opportunities in an industry that has grown rapidly over the past decade.
Nonetheless, YEA insists that the focus is on employment, not gambling and that the recruits will undergo proper training and supervision to ensure professionalism and adherence to legal standards in their roles.
The MoU forms part of YEA’s broader strategy to explore unconventional sectors for job creation, with the agency pledging to monitor and evaluate the impact of such partnerships over time.
