A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Musah Superior has issued a strong call for civility and focus among presidential aspirants within the party, urging them to promote unity and offer clear visions for Ghana’s future rather than resorting to divisive tactics.
In a public statement, Musah Superior emphasised that the tone and content of the internal campaign will greatly influence the NPP’s chances in the next general election. He called on aspirants to avoid inflammatory language and concentrate instead on presenting policies that can win voter confidence.
“Presidential hopefuls must not speak out of turn in this internal campaign,” he stated. “Stay on your vision for our Party and country. We want to hear about how you can win the Presidency as flagbearer, and most importantly, how you will govern as President.”
The former Tamale Mayor warned against what he described as “furious, divisive and unwholesome” campaigning approaches he called outdated and counterproductive. He stressed that party delegates and the electorate are more interested in pragmatic leadership and well-thought-out strategies than personal rivalries or attacks.
He further urged party members and delegates to take responsibility for the tone of the campaign, encouraging them to hold candidates accountable for their conduct.
“The party people must CALL OUT anyone involved in a noxious campaign,” he declared, pointing to the need for grassroots vigilance in preserving party cohesion.
Though he clarified that he does not support any specific candidate, Musah Superior singled out former Minister of Agriculture Bryan Acheampong for praise, commending his approach on the campaign trail.
“I am honestly impressed with the way he goes about his engagements. He is a great guy,” he noted, even suggesting Acheampong could play a significant role in Ghana’s future political leadership. “Watch out for this guy after DMB’s two-term Presidency,” he added, referring to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Mr Musah Superior’s comments follow recent remarks by the former presidential aspirant Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, who suggested the NPP should replace any presidential candidate who fails to impress during general elections. The tension underscores growing concerns over internal party unity ahead of a critical electoral period.
